from canada and this time of year in may and april, we have worm humid air from the south and then also dry air coming in from mexico. this year is different. earlier on we had this la nina. it starts to kink up the jet stream more than usual and that gives it more energy, allows more cold air to drop down and that allows a battleground to light up more. we haven t seen that signal so much in may. april was a record setting month where we had over 1,000 tornadoes and then fairly quiet couple of weeks in may. just what we had this past week is this classic set up. we haven t had as often but we had it this past week. that allowed for not only thunderstorms but super cell thunderstorms that produced the ef-3, ef-4, ef-5 tornadoes and when they hit populated areas that s when we get fatalities.
