The editorial writer has a warped view of their concluding phrase: “We’re all in this together or we’re not”.
People in private enterprise have made a choice and sometimes it pays off. Those who choose careers in this field often do so because there exists the possibility of earning more money than those in public service. There is nothing wrong with that.
Many of them have not lost their jobs and, indeed, some of them have made even more money during the pandemic. I have no reason to believe these gains are illegitimate. So why the call for only public servants to donate part of their salaries?
