good tuesday morning, everybody. i am lindsey reiser live at msnbc world headquarters in new york city. right now we are one hour away from the convening of the 118th congress on capitol hill. a scenario unlike anything we have seen before. one question remaining, will kevin mccarthy be the speaker of the house? right now it s not clear the california republican has the votes to secure the gavel. he seemed optimistic about the outcome this morning. do you have the votes yet? we will have a good day today. we do know house republicans spent the last hour huddleded in a closed door meeting where mccarthy addressed his caucus, but was he able to sway any republicans standing in his way. and just in the last hour we heard from congressman, scott perry. over the 14 years he has been in leadership, he has done almost virtually nothing to change it. and under pressure from a group of members that said we are not any longer going to accept the status quo, and we have been abl
carley: i m carley shimkus. that group is trying to distance itself saying it is committed to nonviolence. it also called brett kavanaugh names and said the with a gun. todd: brooke singman has more. brooke. brooke: good morning, pro-choice activists outside brett kavanaugh s home just hours after a man was charged with attempting to murder kavanaugh. protesters chanting slogans and banging drums. scenes like this playing out at the homes of justices since the leak of the draft opinion that would roll back abortion process. threats like the one against kavanaugh will persist especially as democrats turn a blind eye. i wrote a letter in may to merrick garland to arrest protesters. there is a law, you cannot go to a judge s home or juror s house and intimidate while they are doing their job. they have not been arrested because they are trying to get an outcome they agree with. brooke: a criminal complaint shows a man call said to report himself and admitted to a mur
9/11 terrorists attacks. strange, bizarre and harmful stuff. take a listen to some of the conversations i have had. i don t think he s qualified. i don t know if anybody can trust him. he will be in for two years and in the meantime there s nothing we can do about it. you don t think voters here will have his back in two years? absolutely not. again, there s no recall option or mechanism for that. we will have to see how the investigations unfold and the charges against him in brazil, and the only other option is to expel him, and historically that ever happens. very few congress members have been expelled. it could be up to the voters in two years to send him out of here. tim, democrat tom suozzi
for a plea deal if the progressive los angeles da is removed from office. listen. they re-elect somebody else besides gascon and bring back that little [bleep] death penalty. manslaughter only carries six, nine and 12. todd: needs 566 signatures by next month to get the measure on the november ballot. leading republican candidates for governor are vowing to take action against progressive da bragg as crime in new york city soars. on day one of my administration, i will remove alvin bragg, love to see recall option in state of new york. without that, i want to make sure that as governor we do everything we can to protect our citizens.
newsom. why didn t they vote to get rid of this weird, anti-democratic recall option that says elder doesn t have to win a majority, but newsom does. it s such a weird system. i think there s going to be a lot of legislative proposals to modify the recall process after this election. good. that will be the subject in the state capital i m sure next year. i want to make sure while i have this opportunity, any california voter watching, if you have not returned your ballot, tuesday is the final day to vote. every registered voter received a ballot in the mail some time ago. so fill it out. vote no on the first question. drop it off in the mail. doesn t need a stamp because returned postage is prepaid. you can deliver to any drop box
