so is this behaviour getting worse for today s kids, or are theyjust reporting it more? dr rebekah eglinton works for an ongoing national inquiry into child sexual abuse. is there any sense of how different the culture now is compared to, say, 20 years ago? i think it s quite difficult to fully track change because this is an area that s quite under researched and underreported. but we know that the majority of girls report things like unwanted touching, groping, being pressured and pestered to send nudes. that that is so frequent, it s become a part of everyday life to the point where they wouldn t bother reporting it because itjust feels like it s a normal part of the day. eight out of ten of the victims reporting to the police in our new figures were girls. more than one in ten of the alleged abusers were aged ten or under.
