And this is obviously a huge topic, we can spend an entire semester just on this topic alone. So were going to try to break it down into three different spaces and were going to look at a lot of images to kind of fit in with the other things weve talked about. So we are going to talk about american women in three ways. Were going to talk about women at home. Women at work. And women at war. This is Maurice Jacob weaner, my father. And this lecture is in honor of him. My grandmother, his mother, his functionally illiterate in english. Spoke yiddish. Never learned the language. He graduated third in his class in high school and won a scholarship to penn and wharton in law school where we also boxed and ran track. He was drafted at age 35 when my mom was pregnant. Came home really didnt mind the war. Now, he was a nifty guy, and i think one of the main reasons im doing this tonight is because of him. Because he used to have me sit while he shaved every morning which was quite a scene. And he would quote the gettysberg address, or he would quote from shakespeare, but above all, he would talk about world war ii. So i knew about the battle of the bulge when i was about five years old
And influenced the war effort by encouraging children to recycle paper and buy savings bonds and stamps. This is about 90 minutes. We are going to look at today, the place where the so called real world comes together with the cartoon and comic world. This was a. That witnessed both progress and backlash. For black americans. After the civil war, black virginians and americans embrace the new opportunities. In the form of access to education, new civil rights, political participation, building new communities, starting new businesses and so forth. On one hand black lives of flourished under the new promises afforded , black people also began to suffer backlash from white establishments that wanted to reassert power and supremacy over people of color. At the same time that we see amazing strides, we also see regress in the form of distant friend and American Society. Like of regard for the truth became more apparent than in any other us president ial campaign. According to politico fact an independent Fact Checking websites only 4 percent of donald trump statements during the campaign were true false information was constantly circulating in fact it became selfpropagating you have to look at our media landscape and how americans get their news nowadays conservatives get their news only from fox news or alternative sites like breitbart so thats the only news they see and they view the manged what they call the liberal media the main.
