PET/MRI accurately classifies prostate cancer

PET/MRI can improve diagnostic accuracy for prostate cancer patients and help avoid unnecessary biopsies, according to new research published in the April issue of&nbsp;<em>The Journal of Nuclear Medicine</em>. By applying the PRIMARY scoring system to PET/MRI results, researchers found that more than 80 percent of unnecessary biopsies could be avoided at the expense of missing one in eight clinically significant prostate cancer cases.

<p>Researchers have developed a new method for triggering and imaging seizures in epilepsy patients, offering physicians the ability to collect real-time data to tailor epilepsy surgery. In contrast to previous practice, where physicians from neurology and nuclear medicine had to wait for hours to days in hopes of capturing the onset of a seizure, the new method is convenient, spares resources, and is clinically feasible. This research was published in the March issue of&nbsp;<em>The Journal of Nuclear Medicine</em>.</p>

Radiopharmaceutical therapy controls symptoms

<p>Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) is effective for clinical control of symptomatic metastatic insulinomas, according to new research published in the February issue of&nbsp;<em>The Journal of Nuclear Medicine</em>. In the largest study to date of metastatic insulinoma patients treated with PRRT, more than 80 percent of patients had long-lasting symptom control, and nearly 60 percent were able to reduce the use of other drugs to treat the disease.</p>

Novel PET tracer enhances lesion detection in

<p>A newly developed PET imaging agent has been found to be effective in identifying medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) in preclinical and clinical studies, according to research published in the January issue of&nbsp;<em>The Journal of Nuclear Medicine</em>. The results of the studies indicate that the PET imaging agent may be a promising theranostic candidate for clinical use.</p>
