Labour holds Warrington Borough Council in 2021 elections

But the Conservatives have taken over from the Liberal Democrats as the town s main opposition party. Voters went to the polls on Thursday following a unique election campaign amid the coronavirus pandemic. The count took place at Birchwood Tennis and Leisure Centre today, Saturday, with results being announced throughout the afternoon. And it can now be confirmed that Labour has managed to retain control of the Town Hall. They have 36 seats - a loss of seven from 2016 but enough to keep control. It has been a great afternoon for the Conservatives too. They now have 11 councillors, compared to just one in Lymm before Thursday.

Warrington s unpaid carers urged to accept Covid vaccine

Warrington s unpaid carers encouraged to take up coronavirus vaccine offer as roll-out continues (Image: PA) THE roll-out of the coronavirus vaccination programme continues in Warrington, with unpaid or informal carers are now eligible for a jab. More than 60,000 people have received their first dose of the vaccine in the town as the programme enters its next phase. Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group and GP practices are now offering appointments for the vaccine to specific groups of unpaid and informal carers. At present, carers who qualify at this time are only those who are eligible for a carer’s allowance or those who are the sole or primary carer of an elderly or disabled person who is at increased risk of Covid-19 mortality, and therefore clinically vulnerable.

Covid carers sought to help Warrington s most vulnerable

A RECRUITMENT drive has been launched to find care workers who can provide support for some of Warrington’s most vulnerable people during the coronavirus pandemic. Working in adult social care can be challenging, but it is regarded as being one of the most rewarding professions to be involved in. The Care Hero Campaign, which originally launched in April 2020 during the first coronavirus wave, aims to bring more people into the care sector so that staffing levels can match current and future demand. With the pandemic continuing to put increased pressure on hospital wards and social care services, Warrington Borough Council is keen to recruit even more carers.

PM opens Newton Cay Bridge and Monument Road in Long Island

lrolle@tribunemedia.net   PRIME Minister Dr Hubert Minnis officially opened the Newton Cay Bridge and Monument Road in Long Island on Friday, noting the two major projects are part of the government’s efforts to promote economic growth on the island.  Friday’s opening ceremonies were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Works Minister Desmond Bannister and Long Island MP Adrian Gibson along with other officials, who all noted the developments as “historic” for the island.  The new Newton Cay Bridge, which replaces the old one that was built in 1980, was completed in February and provides access across a small creek from northern Long Island to a beautiful beach of Newton Cay.
