Review: MSU s Tartuffe adaptation is fresh, witty

Review: MSU s Tartuffe adaptation is fresh, witty Brian Lang There’s always a fascination with con-artists in pop culture. Classic heroes like Robin Hood and modern thrillers alike leave audiences cheering for justice while keeping them intrigued at just how far the trick can go before anyone catches on. The Midwestern State Theater students play on this theme in their newest production of Moliere s classic farce “Tartuffe.” “Tartuffe” (meaning the Imposter) is set in a lavish French mansion and centers around its owner, the kind, but all too trusting Orgon (Ian Kirkpatrick) who has fallen under the spell of the charismatic and “pious” conman Tartuffe (Ethan Boone). The play opens with Orgon’s household staff and advisor-like brother Cleante (James Alexander) plotting a way to expose the charlatan to their boss before he returns home.
