juneteenth is a federal holiday, but it s interesting that it s not exactly recognized on the state level all across the country. only 28 states and d.c. consider it to be an official public holiday meaning people have the day off work, schools are closed, et cetera. what do you make of that well, i think those states should join this movement to make juneteenth a day to celebrate, a day to remember history, but also, ana, a day for reaffirmation of commitment to do the work towards the goal of racial justice and a multiracial inclusionary america. so it s a scelebratory day of freedom, a celebratory day of justice, a celebratory day of independence it took the 13th amendment ratified by the states, passed through the congress to put an official end to slavery and to ban it as a practice in the united states on a permanent
we want ukraine to be able to defend its own soil, its own territory. they have been attacked. they have been invaded. they have a right to defend themselves. we ve also been clear, wolf, we don t want to see the war escalate beyond the devastation and violence it s seen. a war that escalates, particularly involving more than just ukraine and russia, that would be bad for not only the ukrainian people but the entire continent. what can you tell us, john, about the most recent conversations the u.s. had with the ukrainians, conversations you just mentioned. did you outline potential consequences? it wasn t really about outlining consequences, it was simply a reaffirmation, wolf, of what we have said before, that we just don t want to see u.s. supplied equipment used to attack russian soil. you know, look, they recognize that. they appreciate that our concerns and, again, they ve given us assurances that they won t do that.
compelled to testify about the president he has served with. i m sure you ve kind of wondered this, and it s unknowable in the exact moment, more time and history to see if it s had an impact. do you think this move, now this precedent that this now sets, that this somehow changes the role of a vice president, or changes the relationship between a vp and a president going forward? i don t think it does. i mean, i think what it does is it reaffirms the notion that at a certain point even people at the highest levels of government still have to subject themselves to the criminal justice system. i think you saw glimmers of this in the context of richard nixon in the 1970s, but you re seeing it again here that certainly mike pence is critical and important, but he was the vice president of the united states, but also right now as a witness and could provide valuable evidence or information to the justice department. i think and a reaffirmation of that point is a great takeaway
