additional tips. go to ready.gov. take the storm seriously. it ll be a big storm impacting some portion of florida on the eastern coast and possibly even further than that. molly: phil was talking about miami to jacksonville, covering those long gas lines. the atms around, people want in cash. are there any evacuations happening or expected? that s a good question. that is a question best asked at the county level in florida. in florida most of the time the counties will generate that. fema s role is to support any gaps they may have, any shortfalls they may have in evacuations. as you know, we don t call for evacuations. i wouldn t want to anticipate on that. again, the state has a great track record of dealing with hurricanes. obviously florida is very familiar with hurricanes. we do have staff embedded with the state staff at the emergency operation center in tallahassee. so we are monitoring any
flash flooding, and we want to make sure people are aware of that, and do everything they can to prepare themselves and their family. so how do you prepare? what s the best way to go about this? the best way is to download the fema app. lots of resources on there to help prepare you and your family. you can also look locally to your local emergency managers, or your state emergency managers for local apps. plenty of resources out there to get you and your family prepared now. but if you re not able to download an app or don t have the best connection at this time, what else can you do? you can get on the internet, ready.gov, plenty of resources for being prepared. again, lots of resources out there that you can use today to make yourself and your family more prepared for barry. so over at fema, what are you guys expecting to unfold in the next 24 or 48 hours? well, again, i think it s, for us, it s a rain event, making sure that people are aware that you re going to see fla
evacuate. he calls this very dangerous in multiple states. not just in the coast but inland. let s go back to chad myers are more. a mike tyson punch to the carolina coast. this is not going to go back out to sea. what struck you most in that briefing? maybe the thoughts of not being able to evacuate when you want to. you know, maybe having to go knock on your neighbors door and say, hey, if you are going, would you take us? because we don t have a way to get out of here. we want to leave, but we don t have a way to get out of here. or talk to your church or anyone in your local community. is there a bus leaving? can i get out of here? you would hate to leave anyone behind that wants to get out but doesn t have the means. it is a very important website called ready.gov. and i would tell you, if you have a pet and you re going with your pet, ready.gov/animals
the secretary of homeland security, the team administrator, are responsible for bringing together the firepower of the federal government to assist the state and local governments, but the state and local governments are in the lead here and we got a lot of respect for and a lot of faith in the governors of these respective places. governor john bel edwards has a strong handle on what he s doing, and governor abbott in texas likewise. what we like to do is reinforce their planning experts, challenge people in the path to be prepared, to listen to their institutions in state and local government. now is not the time to lose faith in your government institutions. those emergency managers giving you advice and making recommendations for you to evacuate, we encourage you to listen to them. i encourage a little shameless plug here for all americans to visit ready.gov. sounds like something that might not teach you anything, but i think maybe you will learn something if you go there and it w
