Duncanville ISD Gifts 3,000 Books to Students, Hosting Live Event May 3

The book giveaway was Friday, April 30 ahead of the virtual event Monday, May 3. “We have lots of different cultures represented in our books. We have different genres. We really picked out something for everyone,” Secondary English Language Arts and Reading coordinator, Ashley Evans said. K-6 English, Language Arts and Reading coordinator Kristi Mullins agreed. “It’s important for these kids to be able to see themselves in these books. We have titles that represent who our students are in Duncanville ISD,” Mullins said. Since last year, reading has been a big focus of concern. “Remote learning has really taken a toll on our kids. We wanted them to see that we want to help,” Evans said.

Free Virtual Children s Books Through United Way Dallas

Volunteer with United Way Reading Day virtual readings here. In addition to virtual readings on March 2, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas has teamed up with Atmos Energy and Vooks to make virtual books available for free for kids ages 3 to 6 years old. The books are being offered in both English and Spanish titles. United Way Metropolitan Dallas Courtesy: United Way Metropolitan Dallas United Way is continuing their quest to help children become better readers throughout March. Volunteers will be hosting local and virtual book drives, as well as recording stories to share with local classrooms. The effort will benefit 22 schools across five local school districts, serving more than 80,000 students.
