Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools aims to have 90% of 3rd grade students proficient in reading by 2025. The most recent end-of-grade testing data shows that the district is about halfway there, with 45% of students reading on grade level.
Forty percent of third grade students in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools are proficient in reading. Teachers in the district have undergone two years of professional learning to improve instruction and student outcomes, but there are some barriers to literacy that schools alone can’t break.
