failings in every organisation. it would be unfair to pick one out but in all of them those failings made it easierfor abuse to happen and much harder for it to be reported. amongst the recommendations are calls for all religious organisations to have a child protection policy in place. and for the government to amend legislation to ensure inspectors have sufficient powers to check the quality of child protection in suspected unregistered schools. but for some, these recommendations from the report don t go far enough. campaigners supporting jewish people here who have been abused saying progress is slow, and want it to be made mandatory for any religious person to report abuse to the police. our home affairs correspondent, tom symonds gave us some background to the report: the independent inquiry, the public enquiry, has been looking at the catholic church, has looked at the anglican church. this is about 38 other religious organisations, a whole wide range of organisations,
thousands of homes in spain are without electricity, and roads and rail links have been forced to close, after intense rain led to severe flooding. coastal towns in catalonia bore the brunt of the storm, as well as areas near to madrid. courtney bembridge has this report. streets were turned to torrents with a powerful stream of water swallowing up cars, furniture and trees. this vision was captured by emergency services in catalonia, where coastal towns were hit particularly hard. dozens of people had to be rescued, and it s feared some people are still trapped. thousands of homes remain without power. further inland, just outside madrid, people were in the middle of a meal at this restaurant when the storm hit. translation: we had some customers who had just finished eating. we tried to get out across
to give you some idea of what this is about, one focus was the jehovah s witnesses, which is quite a big religious organisation from the christian tradition across the uk. they have a rule, a biblical rule, which says that they can only consider allegations when there are two witnesses. now, of course, in the case of child sexual abuse, there is usually only the person involved in the abuse who is present. now, thejehovah s witnesses do have a policy of reporting everything to the police, but the enquiry says that this two witness rule has to stop because it is creating the wrong environment for these allegations to be properly considered. let s speak now to richard scorer, who s a lawyer that s been representing many of the victims and survivors. thank you very much forjoining us. you have represented a great many people affected by this. what are they telling you in response to the report? they telling you in response to the re ort? .,, they telling you in response to the re ort? , ,

although i feel like my mother s mental health issues were her own mental health issues, i feel like the witness religion gave her a framework to hang that abuse on, to justify it. and, ultimately, to get away with it. the allegations were eventually reported by a member of the organisation when she was 13. and yet, she says, nothing was done by the jehovah s witnesses. they say it is the parent responsibility to report allegations to the police, but as you can see in a case like mine, that clearly isn t good enough. it is not enough to expect children, to expect the perpetrators to report them self to the police, it is laughable. today s report is highly critical of many religious organisations. we looked at the jehovah s witnesses, thejewish religion, 38 in total, i think we found
