Church of God and pastors hit with additional fines

Norfolk County, ON, Canada / NorfolkToday.ca Jun 1, 2021 | 6:48 AM Describing the leaders as the face of resistance to the Re-Opening Ontario Act, Aylmer’s Church of God was found in contempt of court for holding an outdoor church service with more than 300 people in attendance just two days after a May 14 order issued in St. Thomas court. In court this morning (Monday), Justice Bruce Thomas noted the repetitive nature of the church’s activities and the fact “we’ve been down this road before,” as justification for fining the Church of God $35,000, Pastor Henry Hildebrandt $20,000 and assistant Pastor Peter Wall $6,000. All fines to be paid forthwith.

County OPP lay charge under Reopening Ontario Act

The organizer of a religious ceremony in Otonabee-South Monaghan has been fined. Peterborough County OPP were called about the gathering at a rural property on Burnham Line on Sunday morning. It’s estimated there were about 50 people in attendance. The organizer of the event was charged for failing to comply with an order made during a declared emergency under the Re-opening Ontario Act. Fines are $750 for failing to comply with an order and/or $1,000 for preventing others (including individuals, employees or other workers) from following an order. Maximum fines for individuals are up $100,000 and $10 million for a corporation. Failure to follow the rules can result in prosecution or jail time.
