a swing district. but what s interesting, wolf, is the lack of democratic defections because we have seen before the ukraine scandal really came out into the open, most democrats and those trump districts, the president carried in 2016, that later won in the 2018 midterms, a lot of them were very wary about moving forward in the impeachment proceedings. they did not think it was a good idea. some resisted the notion of any vote. but the politics have changed dramatically in the house democratic caucus. almost every single member does now support moving forward, at least in the inquiry side, they believe, a lot of them dew believe the president has engaged in im etchment conduct. they are hearing different things back home, perhaps also because they believe the politics could be good for them as they head into difficult re-election races come 2020. but for these two members, we have seen defections on the democratic side and at the
democrats have been dead set on impeaching this president for years, and it is part of their campaign plan. it s so awkward to watch that play out over and over again. gardner is in one of the toughest reelection races in the country. what are the dynamics on the ground right now so folks understand, other than that he is one of the most vulnerable republicans out there? yeah, so you can imagine the calculation that perhaps gardner s campaign is doing. if he goes out and condemns the president s actions on ukraine to for too forcefully, he risks the ire of the white house and alienating his own supporters. if he brushes the president s actions as no big deal, he risks losing moderate voters and in colorado, there are a heck of a lot of them. this is a purple state, one that seems to be getting bluer and bluer by the day. gardner s likely opponent is john hickenlooper who dropped out of the presidential race to
out of their reelection races. just this past week, republican congressman mac thornberry of texas announced he will not seek another term in 2020. he joins five other departing jump shot lawmakers leaving many to wonder if the quote/unquote texidus movement could allow texas to turn blue next november. joining me now is democratic congressman al green of texas. he is a member of the house financial services committee. congressman, we heard about texaco. we have another republican congressman saying this week they will not run. and people should know nationwide texas has the largest republican delegation to the congress, 23 people. so this is significant to see this number of republicans saying that they will not run for reelection in your state.
they will decide how to pour sue these, i am told by multimillion democratic officials if they don t get compliance, that essentially will be one of the articles of impeachment that would be obstruction of congress and exactly what adam schiff just alluded to here in talking to reporters. that s a sign that the democrats want to make. they don t want to be consumed with impeachment up through next year, through the election year. which is why they want to wrap this up in the coming weeks, which is one way nancy pelosi at the beginning of the press conference tried to talk about her agenda and would not take questions for several minutes about impeachment. because it overshadows what they re trying to sell the public. as she noted it is very divisive and does not play particularly well with some democrats who are in tough re-election races. so they do want to whatp this up quickly. if the white house doesn t comply, they ll say this could be one reason to impeach and they hope to wrap i
the effects of texas changing tide from conservative bedrock to political battleground. while latinos are on pace to become the state s largest population by 2022, bill hurd says if the republican party doesn t start look like texas, there wouldn t be a republican party in texas. there are at least eight house seats at play in the state with others facing competitive re-election races. and in oregon, governor kate brown says she would support a law requiring all candidates including president trump to release their tax returns in order to appear on the primary election ballot. brown s comments fall in line with a law in california, that law has already been challenged by lawsuits from trump s campaign and the rnc. president trump and mitch mcconnell have teamed up branding themselves back to back supreme court chants for a new joint fund raising campaign.
