A ‘clueless’ and ‘unkind’ boy racer who killed a grandfather during a fatal crash and tried to blame his grieving daughter-in-law for his death wept as he was put behind bars. Daniel Freeman-Hollins, who had never even had a driving lesson let alone passed a test, was speeding when he crashed off the road near the Robin Hood pub in Gloucester Road, Castlemorton, near Malvern killing Raymond Johnstone. The 20-year-old then tried to blame the victim’s daughter-in-law, Ruth Johnstone, who had been carefully pulling out of the pub car park Homeless man Said Khalid, who spat at and kicked a police officer in Malvern, was jailed in July last year.

Simon Clancy, 45, previously of Teme Road, Tolladine, Worcester has yet to be sentenced after being convicted of nine sexual offences against children in Worcester in 1992. However, judge Nicholas Cole refused him bail which means he will spend Christmas and New Year in jail before he is sentenced on January 8 next year.

The defendant was travelling at well over the 50mph limit.

The 72-year-old grandfather was about to get into his Land Rover Freelander when he was struck, suffering multiple and fatal injuries. Freeman-Hollins of Swinyard Road, Malvern, told the jury he was not speeding as he swerved to avoid the victim’s daughter-in-law, Ruth Johnstone, who was pulling out of the pub carpark, turning right towards Welland. Harpreet Sandhu, prosecuting, said he appears to blame Mrs Johnstone for setting in train the events which led to Mr Johnstone s death .
