Convicted murderer fights to get his plea changed

The fight to change his plea continues for the man convicted of killing Wayne County Sheriff Deputy Sean Riley.

Wayne County Court Cases Today Being Moved to Different Dates

If you were scheduled to be in court today in Wayne County, you will be getting a new court date. Officials at the Wayne County Courthouse announced through their app that those with a May 4th court date will get contacted for a new date. One of the items on the docket today was a status hearing for Ray Tate. Tate originally pleaded guilty to the murder of Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy, Sean Riley that took place at the end of 2021. His new court date is set for 2 PM on June 16th, the same time Brodey Murbarger is set to appear in Wayne County Court for his status hearing. Murbarger is attempting to get a reconsideration on his 50-year-sentence for the murder of 15-year-old Megan Nichols.

Update on the Ray Tate Case

The case involving the individual who originally plead guilty to the murder of deputy Sean Riley continues. 41-year-old Ray Tate appears via zoom in Wayne County Court. Court documents say discovery is continuing in the case. A status hearing is set for May 4th. Tate is currently serving a life sentence after originally pleading guilty, but is currently attempting to withdraw his plea and get a new trial. Tate pled in 2022 to 38 counts with all but 2 charges dropped. The charges include aggravated vehicular carjacking, felon in possession of a firearm, and murder.

Local Artists Creates Tribute For Fallen Deputy Riley

An area musician has released a tribute to Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley. The song, titled Badge 96-6 was released on Friday by Dylan Wolfe. Wolfe is a Clay City Native and currently is a Nashville Recording Artist. According to the Dylan Wolfe Music Facebook Page, over 25,000 streams of the song took place on day one the song was out. Deputy Sean Riley was killed in the midst of a Midwest crime spree on I-64 in December of 2021, leaving a wife without her husband and 3 children without their father. The individual suspected of shooting Riley, Ray Tate is currently in Menard Correctional Facility and will have a status hearing this week in Wayne County Court.
