STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. My mom, Narcy Santos, is turning 83 in a couple of weeks, but for about 20 years she has been having eye trouble. Like countless others, for 60 years she was nearsighted (meaning she had trouble seeing things at a distance); for the past 10 years her vision self-corrected and she has needed only reading glasses.
