In other words, the polar opposite of “services we earn through our tax dollars”, as Mr. Moreno would have it.
We pay for such “social services “with our tax dollars. And because under our system of government, we the people (“the community as a whole”), through our duly elected representatives, are the government, the government does in that sense “own” those services as alluded to by Kathleen Bauder (Letters, Feb. 1).
I could find nowhere in her letter where she suggested, per Mr. Moreno, that services are “given to us.” But I would ask those who are likewise concerned if they want their money back for the roads and bridges afforded us by the Eisenhower Project.
