Euro2020 Fan Zone Festival line-up to showcase Scotland s vibrant cultural scene A PACKED programme of live performances has been announced for the UEFA Euro2020 Glasgow Fan Zone. Glasgow Green is set to showcase Scotland’s diverse cultural scene across 23 days of events, including contemporary and traditional music, comedy and drag nights, cinema, dance, and family entertainment, which, organisers say, will take place in a safe environment. Events are scheduled on days with no matches and will be viewable only from the Food & Beverage Garden area. The Fan Zone will be set up as a largely seated venue, with physical distancing in place and all performances must be booked in advance.
Parking LOL session will take place in Albion Car Park at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday May, 29. Stand up stars taking part include Glasgow favourites Des McLean and Susie McCabe, as well as Christopher MacArthur-Boyd and Ray Bradshaw. Christopher MacArthur-Boyd said, “I’m really looking forward to doing stand-up again. I think it’s brilliant that Parking Lot Social are booking locally sourced comedians instead of shipping in acts from elsewhere. Some of my pals have worked with them before and they said it was class, so I’m really looking forward to it. COVID struck a real blow to live comedy, so it’s great to be out doing events like this in front of a live audience again.”
EATERIES are out of bounds and laughs have been hard to come by of late so what’s not to like about an online comedy café? The Comedy Café is the latest online show to be staged as part of the #ShineOnFife programme – OnFife’s positive response to its venues having to close during lockdown. The show is hosted by comedian and actor Raymond Mearns and joining him will be three acts who had been going down a storm before Scotland’s comedy scene was short-circuited last March – Ray Bradshaw, Jay Lafferty and John Ross. Verdi Clark, OnFife’s programme manager, said: “Our monthly comedy cafés built a loyal audience prior to lockdown, packing them in at Carnegie Hall, Rothes Halls and Adam Smith Theatre, so this is a great opportunity to share some laughs, support performers and stay connected.”
Online success for Janey Godley-hosted show
Janey Godley’s Big Burns Supper attracted a digital audience of 327,000 viewers last night.
Organisers announced that the online entertainment was seen by viewers in 50 countries via Facebook and YouTube
Godley was joined by guests including fellow comedian Ray Bradshaw musicians KT Tunstall, Donovan and Hollyoaks star Amy Conachan.
Godley said: ‘What an absolutely cracking night! I’m still knackered. Hosting the Big Burns Supper virtual show was a proper honour.
‘It was so clear from the outpouring of support and positivity from folk tuning in from around the world and raising a dram to Rab, just how vital culture and the arts are to us all..’
