GREEN RIVER The Green River Knights baseball team wrapped up its home schedule Wednesday night by beating the Rawlins Raiders 11-1 and 12-2 in a double header at Stratton Meyers Park.
This would have been any ordinary midsummer’s evening twin bill, but Knights’ manager Ben Lail saw an opportunity to do something special in the home finale.
Green River opened the season against a Rawlins team suffering from an extreme and unexpected tragedy. Raiders’ teammate Zach Waring passed away right before the start of the season in early May. In an emotional ceremony on the night of the season opener, the team sadly retired Zach’s number prior to the game.
