ODOT hears from public regarding U S Route 30 plan in Stark County

EAST CANTON  The public provided feedback Thursday to the Ohio Department of Transportation s plans to extend the four-lane section of U.S Route 30 south of the village, raising concerns that ranged from a desire for a highway interchange with Wood Avenue to avoiding constructing a path through virgin land. The four-lane highway ends now at Trump Avenue SE as its eastern most point. It then curls through downtown East Canton before continuing eastward as a two-lane road. ODOT wants to extend the four-lane section three miles from Trump to a newly created interchange with Ravenna Avenue SE, which also is state Route 44.

East Canton sounds off on Ohio s Route 30 extension plans

But that s exactly what he wants. He is not in favor of a state proposal to extend the four-lane portion of U.S. Route 30 along the southern edge of town from Trump Avenue SE to Ravenna Avenue SE in Osnaburg Township, providing motorists an opportunity to bypass the village.  Dorto prefers that the Ohio Department of Transportation build the limited access highway extension through the heart of East Canton, not around it. We want traffic to come through because of the businesses, Dorto said. I would like to see it come through. We are losing our businesses. If the traffic goes outside, we are going to lose our business. If we lose our traffic, we just might lose our police department. You have to worry about having a community. I am just looking out for the community.
