Devendra Desai was the founder-president of the Rajkot District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited and also served as the chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
Rajkot has seen many transitions since the 1980s when a major means of public transport were autorickshaws or chhakdas ‘uncomfortable’ multi-seater rides improvised from motorbikes. A complete transition to buses running on green fuel is on its way after many experiments.
The SVDD school was established at the time when freedom fighters were struggling for the independence of India, hence the name Rashtriya Shala (meaning the National, Independent School).
