The success of translations is sometimes marred by unpredictable historical circumstances, and such is the case unfortunately of the translations of the prolific and brilliant Rabbi Yosef Renassia. This week I obtained several of his Judeo-Arabic translations, including his translations of the Mishnah and Rashi’s Torah commentary.
Born in 1871, R. Yosef Renassia was the chief rabbi of the Jewish community in Constantine, Algeria. He published over 130 books â including Judeo-Arabic translations of the
Mishneh Torah,
Mishnayot,
Zohar, Rif on Talmud, Rashi’s commentary on the Torah, as well as several dictionaries and education books.
