Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was offered a position in President-elect Joe Biden‘s administration, but she turned it down.
Bottom’s senior adviser Rashad Taylor didn’t say what position Bottoms was offered, only that she turned it down to focus on her job as the mayor of Atlanta.
“Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined,” Taylor told the
Atlanta Journal Constitution. “The Mayor’s focus remains on the people of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia.”
The Biden transition team confirmed to the AJC that it offered Bottoms an unspecified position. Lance Bottoms endorsed Biden in June 2019, just before the first Democratic Primary debate. President-elect Joe Biden reportedly asked Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to serve in his Cabinet, but the Democrat turned down the offer.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing Rashad Taylor, Bottoms’ senior adviser, reported that the mayor is focused on the people of her city and “respectfully declined the offer.
Bottoms and the Biden transition team did not immediately respond to an email from Fox News early Monday. It was not immediately clear what position Bottoms was offered.
Bottoms, who is a Black woman, made national news earlier this year as she clashed with Republican Gov. Brian Kemp over whether she had the authority to mandate that masks be worn in Georgia’s largest city.

ATLANTA, GA Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms turned down an offer to serve in President-elect Joe Biden s Cabinet, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Saturday. A spokesperson for the mayor and the Biden Transition Press Office both confirmed this statement. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined, said Rashad Taylor, senior adviser to the mayor, in a statement.
The statement did not clarify which Cabinet position Bottoms was offered. According to the AJC, Biden s office did not answer a question about which Cabinet position Bottoms was asked to fill.
