The vote was 952-811 in favor of Hedrick. About 34% of registered voters cast ballots.
“I want to thank all of the City of Groton voters that have supported me during this election,” said Hedrick, who waged a grassroots write-in campaign after losing the Democratic primary in March to Bumgardner by five votes. “I want to congratulate my opponent for a hard-fought battle both of them and ask for everyone’s support in reuniting the Democratic Party, and I look forward to continuing to lead the City of Groton into the future.”

Groton While Town Councilor Aundré Bumgardner, the Democratic nominee, and Mayor Keith Hedrick, a Democrat and incumbent who is running as a write-in candidate, are vying to be the city’s mayor for the next term, the races for City Council and city clerk are uncontested in the city’s general election on Monday, May 3.
The Democratic slate features mostly incumbents for City Council and a new city clerk, as City Clerk Debra Patrick is slated to retire after more than two decades of service. The City of Groton Republican Committee did not endorse a slate of candidates, citing concerns over a hostile and threatening environment for GOP candidates.
Groton Rashaad Carter smiles every time he drives by the Raheem Ali Carter Memorial Park, where he and his twin brother played football with other neighborhood kids when they were youngsters.
Rashaad knows that his twin brother, Raheem, a gifted student-athlete who became a New London police officer and died in 2007 at age 25 after a battle with cancer, is still with him every day and that people who knew Raheem are still thinking of him.
For the people who didn t know Raheem, Rashaad would like them to look at the sign and know that Raheem was one of their own a kid from Poquonnock Bridge who followed his dreams over his 25 years and is a symbol of hope that everybody can fulfill their dreams and do it the right way.
