Hospital. Based on preliminary information, a Police Officer was on a traffic stop with a 37year old male. The individual that was pulled over began an altercation with the Police Officer. During the incident, the Police Officer discharged his Service Weapon at the suspect. The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle southbound towards 1st avenue east. The suspect vehicle struck an unmarked Cedar Rapids Police Department Sport Utility Vehicle that was responding to coe road ne. The suspect then struck an unoccupied vehicle in a coe College Parking lot off of coe road and 1st avenue. It was at this location that the suspect was taken into custody by other responding officers. The suspect was transported to university of iowa hospitals and clinics with serious injuries as the result of the shooting and collisions. The Police Officer that was involved in the altercation was not seriously injured. The officer that was in the police suv had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transporte
