Des Moines officially removed its mask mandate on Friday in keeping with new guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that fully vaccinated Americans no longer need to wear masks indoors or outdoors, with few exceptions.
Mayor Frank Cownie said Friday afternoon that he has removed the mandate effective immediately. On Thursday, he said he would review the policy after CDC leaders said they were confident in the data showing authorized vaccines are highly effective at protecting vaccinated people against symptomatic and severe COVID-19.
