April 12, 2021 11:52 am Marcus Ó Buachalla Leinster Rugby has this morning announced the submission of detailed plans to Government for a proof of concept test event, to assess the use of rapid antigen testing as a solution for the safe return of spectators to matches at the RDS Arena. With matches in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup scheduled for the coming weeks, a trial match could take place as early as next month, May 2021. Details of the comprehensive plans, which have IRFU approval and are a direct response to the Government’s Rapid Testing Group’s recommendation to immediately implement antigen trial events, were submitted to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media on Friday, 9th April and include:

Sport and business should use rapid Covid-19 tests - report Reporter: );   ); The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD has published the report of the COVID-19 Rapid Testing Group. The report recommends widespread pilots, or feasibility studies, of rapid tests across different sectors. The report highlights that rapid testing is a fast-developing field. It recommends that various sectors and industries, including business, sports and education, should work in partnership with Government Departments to pilot and initiate widespread feasibility studies with a view to making rapid testing part of Ireland’s collective and sustained response to COVID-19. The Rapid Testing Group was chaired by Professor Mark Ferguson, Director General Science Foundation Ireland and Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government. The report was shared with party leaders earlier this week and Professor Ferguson briefed party leaders on the Expert Group’s findings and key recommendations.

Self-administered Covid-19 antigen testing could allow people to “take control over their own health”, a Government report has found. The long-awaited report into rapid antigen testing has recommended its use on a trial basis in schools, colleges, workplaces and sporting organisations. Launching the report on Thursday, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said he fully supported the introduction of rapid testing as an “additional tool” in the fight against Covid-19.
