Bay student receives Presidential Honor Award | News, Sports, Jobs

May 5, 2021 ESCANABA –The Presidential Honor Award was established by the Bay de Noc Community College Foundation in July of 1997 in honor of Dr. Dwight E. Link, President Emeritus of Bay College. The award recognizes students graduating with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA who demonstrate outstanding leadership and substantial involvement on campus. Congratulations to Emily Thibault, the recipient of the 2021 Presidential Honor Award. Thibault is a liberal art major and will earn her Associate in Arts degree this semester. Her education at Bay started when she dual enrolled as a student at Rapid River High School and she will continue her time here when she pursues her secondary education math degree through LSSU at Bay College. On campus, Emily works in the food pantry and is a tutor and a peer mentor for the TRIO program. Off campus, her leadership parallels her service on campus as she coaches junior high and high school girls’ basketball as well as track at Rapid River H

iminor@dailypress.net Ilsa Minor | Daily Press Above, a woman views the pieces featured in their year’s Youth in Art exhibit at the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba. The annual show is smaller than in years past, primarily due to the lack of in-person instruction at participating schools. Still, the exhibit features about 360 pieces by students from across the area. An online awards presentation will take place March 15 and be posted on the Bonifas’ website, www.bonifasarts.org. Also shown above are a sampling of the birds colored by area children as part of a community art project with support provided by Art Bridges through a grant.

Dec 10, 2020 GLADSTONE Mark Russell Lippold, age 69, of Gladstone, entered into heaven peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone, with his loving daughter by his side. Mark was born November 27, 1951, in Escanaba, the son of Melvin and Ruth (Ross) Lippold. He was raised on the family farm in Stonington, and was a 1970 graduate of Rapid River High School. On December 19, 1972 Mark was united in marriage to his loving wife Carol Lippold (Sarasin). He was in the National Guard before working at New Page Paper Mill for 38 years before retiring as an operator. Mark loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycles taking many vacations across the country. He also enjoyed taking his family exploring in his classic cars to unknown surprise destinations. He loved the woods whether driving his truck, deer or bird hunting, or hiking the two tracks and trails around Rapid River. He loved to spoil his grandsons with surprises he picked up along his advent
