ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA â Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) recently visited a Livermore-based lab and received its 98% accurate rapid COVID-19 test, where he tested negative for the virus.
Livermore Superintendent Kelly Bowers and other school district officials also attended the event as Su Dwarakanath, Kaya17 Inc. CEO and founder, offered a presentation of the rapid test on May 6. The test offers results in 15 minutes.
Dwarakanath credits her testâs success to the vertical flow filter method. She further explained how schools and airports in particular will find the speed and accuracy of Kaya17âs creation a key component to reopening. She called on Swalwell to help her company secure grant funding to reduce the cost of each test and assist with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
Renee’s Tale of Two COVID-19 Tests
Over the last year and for different reasons I have had a couple of COVID-19 tests. Happily, I can tell you each test has been negative.
In my humble opinion, there are two different versions of the test. I say they are different because in one case a nurse sticks the swap up your nose and in the second you do it yourself.
I will be the first to tell you I have avoided the do-it-yourself test at all costs. Until last weekend…I needed a test, the timing worked out, the cost was reasonable BUT I HAD TO DO IT MYSELF! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? NOOOOO! I put on my big girl panties and faced this head-on.

Free rapid testing for COVID-19 from Merso Labs has been available in Lompoc for nearly a month.
Many people say they spent hours in line to get the tests, only to be asked for cash once they got to the door.
The rapid tests are only free, however, if you have proof of insurance. If you do have insurance and you don t bring [proof of] it, and you claim that you don t have insurance, we don t get reimbursed for that and that s just a loss for us, Kaleb Asfaha, CEO of Merso Labs, said.
