Heading into the november election. Some of it reads like a Black Mirror episode. It is a thrill to have you and that Pit Congratulations on the book. It is titled americas deadliest election, the Cautionary Tale of the most violent election in american history. It is out today. Now it is time for the last word with the great lawrence odonnell. Alex, why did they make summer shorter this year . I dont know how this happened. Who do you call about the timing of Labor Day . Does it have to be the first . Cant it be the sixth of september . I had about three, four more weeks of summer planned or at least in my head expecting. Here we are. I dont know. It is like daylight savings, the calendar should be open to constructive, a constructive process where we can find dates that work for All Of Us and times that work for All Of Us. Someone around here, i have to turn off my phone, pardon me. Now is the time. Class time is the time to do that. Someone has a tell me what day it is. It is septem
Labor day afternoon with us on this special edition of deadline white house, with just 64 days to go before the election, the sprint to the finish is in full swing today. Vice president kamala harris and governor tim walz are wasting no time flooding the zone with a flurry of campaign events across the battleground states. Using this labor day to make their case to union voters and organized labor. Vice president harris kicked things off in detroit, flanked by michigan governor gretchen whitmer and two of the most powerful voices in organized labor. Shawn fain of the united autoworkers, and randi weingarten of the american federation of teachers. We celebrate unions because unions helped build america, and unions helped build america s middle class. It is true across our nation and it is true here in detroit. For generations, in detroit and across our nation, the brothers and sisters of labor have stood together to righteously demand fair pay, better benefits, and safe working conditio
Labor day weekend is upon us. With it, the next chapter in the roller coaster 2024 presidential race. Many voters will soon be taking a closer look at the candidates as the weeks countdown to election day. Vice president kamala harris has a light schedule this weekend, as she gears up for battleground states appearances next week in concealing and michigan. And, prepares for the presidential debate september 10th. Meanwhile, former president trump is cleaning up several critical masses of his own making, including a controversial visit to arlington cemetery that has some veterans outraged. And, a shifting message on reproductive rights that has even some members of his base scratching their heads. Before we start, some breaking news out of the middle east. The israeli defense force says they have found a number of bodies during fighting operations in the gaza strip. The idf says troops are still in that area and they are working on identifying the remains. We will bring you more inform
Polling that come out, both the national polls and the swing state polls. Are generally telling the same story right now, they re telling a story that vice president kamala harris is doing significantly better against donald trump than president biden had been doing in his campaign. That is comparatively good news for the democrats. They are, apparently, better off now with harris as their candidate than they were before the switch from biden to harris. That said, in absolute terms, the polls, national polls, and the swing state polls, broadly speaking, don t really give either party a reason to celebrate right now. Vice president harris may be doing better than biden was against trump, but it doesn t mean that she is clearly winning against trump. It s basically a tie between the two candidates right now. And that produces all sorts of interesting dynamics to watch for, when it is this close, little differences between the candidates and their campaigns can make a very interesting not
Preferences are. To pull that Military Threatening Military Funding or threaten it in a meaningful way. One thing i want to say quick is if american politicians saw daily video briefings of the suffering of the people in gaza and the people being killed day in and day out, they would put an end to this immediately. The problem is we operate in an environment in which palestinian lives are considered secondary. No one is paying attention and we put israeli lives that somehow more valuable and you are emboldening a situation in which it continues. I really appreciate it. I know there is more to discuss, but i greatly appreciate your time and insights this evening. That is our show tonight. Now it is time for the last word with lawrence odonnell. Good evening. Good evening, ayman, thanks. We are about a minute over with that one. Thank you. Sorry about that. Stack we will cover what Samantha Power is calling the single largest humanitarian crisis on the planet. It is probably not the one
