The Championships 2021 closed with a truly world class performance by UK raider Addeybb in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Addeybb, racing in blinkers for the first time proved too strong for Australia’s best Group 1 performer Verry Elleegant.
Verry Elleegant’s trainer Chris Waller won two of the four Group 1s contested on the day with Hungry Heart winning the Australian Oaks and Selino giving former champion Sydney apprentice Ronnie Stewart his first Australian Group 1 victory in the Sydney Cup.
Last year’s Doncaster Mile winner Nettoyer won her second Randwick Group 1 mile when knocking off the hot favourite Probabeel in the Queen Of The Turf.

Addeybb and Tom Marquand retained their Queen Elizabeth Stakes crown with a battling success over Verry Elleegant at Randwick on Saturday.
It was the fourth win at Group 1 level for Addeybb, and the first in front of a crowd, having last year landed the Ranvet and Queen Elizabeth in Australia before finishing his season with success in the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot. He also became the first northern hemisphere-trained horse to win three Group 1s in Australia.
Jockey Marquand, who will return to Britain after this weekend, was emotional after the race.
“It’s the closest I’ve been to tears for a very, very long time and I’m not all that old,” he said. “It’s been pretty tough being away from home for a few months and I’d do it ten times over for a moment like that.

William Haggas is âsavouring the momentâ after Addeybb won his latest battle with great Australian rival Verry Elleegant to take the Group One Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes for the second successive year at Randwick.
Haggasâ Champion Stakes hero was taking revenge on Verry Elleegant, who had beaten him into second on his return in last monthâs Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill but this time had to settle for minor honours herself.
Addeybb got the better of the mare in their two tussles in both races last year, before heading back to Britain and winning the Champion Stakes at Ascot in October.
