Brimbank working towards net zero emissions
Local buildings, sports grounds, community venues, leisure centres and street lights managed by Council are now powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity.
Brimbank is one of 46 Victorian councils that are part of VECO, the Victorian Energy Collaboration which flicked the switch to renewables with Red Energy this month.
VECO is the largest emissions reduction project ever undertaken by the local government sector in Australia.
Together we have pooled our electricity needs into one long-term contract to source renewable energy generated from Victorian wind farms.
This will save 260,000 tonnes of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere each year – the same as taking 90,000 cars off the road.
