NEW YORK – After Brooklyn borough President Eric Adams, a former police captain, appeared to have his lead narrow Tuesday in the New York City mayor s race, the Board of Elections acknowledged a discrepancy in the calculation of ranked choice votes.
Late Tuesday, the board said about 135,000 test ballots had been included in the tally. Partial results had showed Adams narrowly edging out Kathryn Garcia but those results were taken down hours after, raising doubts and confusion around Democratic mayoral primary in the city s first citywide test of its ranked choice voting system.
The board said it had removed the test ballot images from its system and will upload the election results again, checking it with software from election night. The results were also removed from its website.
