Tems After expanding to 37 countries in the continent last year, the streaming service is establishing influence, subscribers and greater global reach for local artists. When 25-year-old Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Tems released her debut EP, For Broken Ears, in late September, she knocked Burna Boy off the top of Apple Music’s album charts in Nigeria, ending a six-week run for the star’s Twice As Tall. It was an impressive feat for Tems, who had released just a handful of singles prior. Now, since joining Apple Music’s Africa Rising program, which was first launched in July, she’s become another example of the streaming service’s significant investments into the continent’s artists and music business paying off in tangible ways.
