Adirondack rangers complete 16-hour rescue on Mt Marcy

May 12, 2021 Adirondack forest rangers rescued an injured hiker near the summit of Mt. Marcy. Photo: Forest Ranger Scott Van Laer, NYSDEC Adirondack forest rangers completed a 16-hour rescue mission on Mt. Marcy last weekend. On Saturday morning, the DEC’s Ray Brook dispatch received a call that a woman slipped on ice on the summit and suffered a hip injury.  The hiker was a 52-year-old woman from Colorado. Around 5 p.m. Saturday, two rangers reached the woman and determined that she could not walk the 14 miles back to the trailhead. The rangers stabilized her hip and waited for additional support to begin evacuation.
