New mental health fund aims to build rangatahi resilience

Health Minister Andrew Little has announced $10 million for new rangatahi services to access mental health and addiction support.
The minister particularly acknowledged whānau affected by the earthquakes 10 years ago and the 2019 terrorist attacks in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.
The rollout for more wellbeing support is part of the $455m Budget announcement in 2019 targeting youth-specific initiatives.
The mental health and addiction support fund is to be delivered in Bay of Plenty, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Kāpiti Coast, Hutt Valley and Canterbury in the coming weeks.

Sport Bay of Plenty is calling on local community sports coaches to apply for its 2021 Development Coach Advance programme to help them build effective and sustainable coaching practices.
The 10-month programme is open to coaches of tamariki (primary school-aged children), rangatahi (intermediate and college-aged youth) and local club adults.
Applications for the 2021 Development Coach Advance programme close at 5pm on Friday, February 19.
Sport Bay of Plenty community coaching adviser Trudi Kemp said the Development Coach Advance programme is designed to help community coaches focus on their learning and invest in their coaching skills.

A two-year pilot programme with a strong focus on Ōtaki rangatahi aged between 15-24 has received $995,000 from the He Poutama Rangatahi initiative, a fund managed by the Provincial Development Unit.
Minister for Social Development and Employment Carmel Sepuloni announced the Council-led Te Hunga Rangatahi pilot programme will receive the funding to support youth who are most at risk of long-term unemployment and who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), including those transitioning from school that are needing extra support.
