+ February 02, 2021 THE Office of Cebu City Prosecutor upheld the recommendation of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 to file murder charges against Ret. Col. Edwin Layese for his alleged participation as the mastermind and/or contractor of the shooting incident that killed lawyer Joey Luis Wee.
Lawyer Rennan Augustus Oliva, NBI 7 director, said they received a copy of the case information dated Jan. 29, 2021, on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1.
He said this is a very good development and said even the petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus filed by Layese s counsel was denied by the court. Writ of Habeas Corpus is used to bring a detainee before the court to determine if his detention is lawful.
February 02, 2021 RETIRED army official Edwin Layese will face trial for his alleged participation in the murder of lawyer Joey Luis Wee either as mastermind or contractor.
This, after the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor found enough evidence to charge Layese with murder, a non-bailable offense.
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 Director Rennan Augustus Oliva, a lawyer, described Layese’s indictment as a “very good” development.
Layese was arrested by NBI 7 agents in Cebu City on Jan. 13, 2021. Fausto Edgar Peralta, the alleged triggerman in the killing of Wee, ratted out Layese’s identity to the investigators.
Oliva said he received a copy of Layese’s charge sheet dated Jan. 29, 2021, on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1.
January 18, 2021 THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is now in possession of electronic evidence that will help identify the mastermind behind the murder of lawyer Joey Luis Wee.
NBI 7 Director Renan Oliva said cellular phones were recovered from retired Colonel Edwin Layese, the alleged contractor hired to execute the murder of Wee last November.
Layese was arrested by NBI 7 agents in Cebu City on Jan. 13, 2021.
He was a former director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Western Visayas and a former member of the Philippine Army. He is currently a security officer of a business establishment at the Cebu Business Park.
December 11, 2020 A FORMER Philippine Army officer who is the current supervisor of a security firm in Laguna has been identified by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) as the man who gunned down lawyer Joey Luis Wee outside his office in Cebu City on Nov. 23, 2020.
The gunman, Fausto Edgar Peralta, is one of the six suspects in Wee’s murder, according to the NBI.
Peralta was arrested in Cabuyao, Laguna last Dec. 8. The suspect reportedly heads a security agency in Cabuyao, Laguna, NBI Laguna’s Daniel Daganzo told reporters in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 10.
The suspect was turned over by the NBI Laguna office to the NBI 7 Thursday; on the same day, Peralta and the other suspects were charged with murder before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
