Janet Bartnik, Geoffrey Grimmer appointed to Eagle Town Council

EAGLE Eagle Town Council finalized its appointment of two new council members Tuesday, formally appointing Janet Bartnik and Geoffrey Grimmer to fill two seats left vacant by the deaths of Adam Palmer and Andy Jessen in an avalanche near Silverton in early February. Bartnik and Grimmer were among 19 people who applied for possible appointment to the Town Council to fill the two seats, and were among the eight applicants council members interviewed during a four-hour work session last week. Other applicants interviewed were Jaimie Mackey, Erinn Hoban, Sarah Parrish, Brian Bloess, Josh Stowell and Kevin Brubeck. “It goes without saying we would be in great shape with any two of the eight. We are fortunate to have so many great people step forward,” Eagle Mayor Scott Turnipseed said at Tuesday’s meeting. “This is one of the hardest things we have to do as a council, especially given these circumstances, and I just want to say thank you to everybody for stepping up.”

Vail Valley Art Guild donates proceeds from art sales to avalanche victims families

Artists and photographers of the Vail Valley Art Guild, many of whom are residents of the town of Eagle, want to help the families of the three locals who were killed in the avalanche in February near Silverton. All the artworks at the Vail Valley Art Guild s second Friday art show in Eagle are priced under $200, with many under $100. Special to the Daily They are donating original works of art to be sold at the Gallery’s Second Friday opening, from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 12. The pieces will be deeply discounted, all priced under $200 and many under $100. All after tax proceeds will be donated to the families of Seth Bossung, Andy Jessen, and Adam Palmer. Neither VVAG nor its artists will receive any income from the sales of the artwork on Friday.

8 applicants make pitches to Eagle Town Council

Applicants for the two open seats on the Eagle Town Council each touched on a variety of issues in the small but growing town in their interviews. Those issues included supporting small businesses and recruiting new businesses, improving internet services, attracting younger people and families to town, helping older residents age in place, providing more affordable housing, protecting the environment, and enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities and quality of life.
