Amarillo May general election: Here s what to know for ballot, voting

After the application process ended Friday afternoon for individuals to put themselves into consideration for various positions up for vote in the May election, ranging from various school boards to Amarillo City Council, numerous entities reported to the Amarillo Globe-News the individuals who will be on the ballot for each respective entity.  The Amarillo Globe-News has compiled all the information you need to know prior to participating in general election, which is scheduled for May 1.  Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees Officials from Amarillo ISD stated that applications for the four open seats on the district s board of trustees were received from: 

Canyon ISD names first principal of West Plains High School

During Monday’s meeting of the Canyon Independent School District Board of Education, progress on West Plains High School, the first high school in the district in more than 30 years, continued.  This time, however, that progress was not related to the building or the construction site. The progress was related to the individual leading that school, and the students within the school, prior to and after the school s opening in August 2022.  Eric Gomez, currently an assistant principal at Canyon High School, was unanimously approved as the first principal of West Plains High School during Monday’s meeting. Gomez, a Dalhart native and Lubbock Christian University graduate, previously worked in Levelland ISD and Amarillo ISD.

Process starts for May s School Board elections

Process starts for May s school board elections The school board election process officially started this week, with the application process for the open seats for the Amarillo Independent School District, Canyon ISD and River Road ISD, opening Wednesday. The election is set for May 1.  According to previous Globe-News reports, there are four positions that will be open for each of the respective districts.  Canyon ISD and River Road ISD For voters who live in Canyon and River Road ISDs, there will be four seats to fill for each respective board. The open positions in Canyon ISD are currently held by Randy Darnell, Bill Jenkins, Matt Parker and Jennifer Winegarner. The open positions in River Road ISD are currently held by Amanda Brown, Danielle Coleman, Dana Finley and Brian Shannon.

Barksdale sworn in as new DA

New Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale takes the oath of office from Judge Brenda H. Trammell on Wednesday in Jones County. GRAY, Ga. — T. Wright Barksdale III officially became the youngest district attorney in Georgia on Wednesday afternoon.  The 33-year-old Barksdale, a native of Washington County, but who lives in Jones County with his wife, Katie, and their three children, was sworn into office by Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Brenda H. Trammell during a special ceremony held in the Jones County courtroom. “It is a pleasure to swear to him in, and I’m very excited to do so,” said Trammell in her opening comments to a courtroom of family and law enforcement officials from throughout the eight-county judicial circuit.
