Police not pursuing criminal enforcement of new curfew mandate
Alamance County lawmakers are continuing to practice education over enforcement in the face of new state executive orders going into effect this week.
On Tuesday, Gov. Roy Cooper issued a new executive order putting in place a modified stay-at-home order which sets a curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The order went into effect Friday.
Earlier this week, Randolph County Sheriff Gregory Seabolt said his department would not be seeking criminal enforcement of the mandated curfew.
Law enforcement leaders around the country particularly sheriffs who are elected and, unlike police chiefs, not accountable to a council or board have also refused to enforce local mask mandates and curfews.
