ELKINS A Montrose man was convicted on sexual abuse charges Friday following a two-day trial in Randolph County Circuit Court.
James Thomas Miller, 42, was convicted of two felony counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, and one felony count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust to a child.
Sentencing has been sent for April 19. Miller is facing a possible maximum sentence of no less than 20 years and no more than 70 years in the state penitentiary. He will be required to register for life as a sexual offender.
Prosecuting Attorney Michael Parker represented the state, while Miller was represented by Brent Easton.

ELKINS A Randolph County woman is behind bars after she allegedly almost crashed into a West Virginia State Trooper and struck another vehicle while driving intoxicated with a child in her vehicle.
Maria M. Romo is being charged with a felony count of DUI with bodily injury. According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court, on Jan. 18, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. B.A. Talkington was traveling north on Route 219/250 near Colonial Mill Works when a red Honda Accord, heading south, came around the turn at a high rate of speed.
“The vehicle spun sideways in the roadway and crossed the center line. I steered my cruiser toward the ditch to avoid a collision,” Talkington writes in the complaint. “The vehicle slid past me and struck the vehicle directly behind me. ELKINS An Elkins man is behind bars and accused of forcing a minor to perform sexual acts.
Paul William Kittle Jr., 31, is being charged with one felony count of sexual abuse by a guardian. Kittle is currently lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Mike Dyer.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Randolph County Magistrate Court by Elkins Police Department Senior Patrolman K.A. Shiflett, on April 13, EPD Cpl. C.G. Boatwright contacted Shiflett in reference to the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile. Shiflett made contact with a relative of the 6-year-old child.
