Randhurst Mall in Mount Prospect, designed by an acclaimed Austrian architect, opened 60 years ago as a shopping cathedral and ‘machine for selling’
Over the past 60 years, Randhurst shopping center has undergone many changes in response to evolving retail trends. The most dramatic change arrived in 2009, with the demolition of the indoor mall and its reinvention as a lifestyle center named Randhurst Village.
It has been a rough ride for most of Randhurst Village s existence, but as the shopping center prepares to celebrate its 60th birthday, it has proved its resilience.
The former Randhurst Mall would have marked its 60th anniversary this summer, and the Mount Prospect Historical Society is celebrating the occasion with a new T-shirt.
