The Goose Creek school board says the name of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown will not be changed.

A committee recommended keeping the name after a community survey indicated an overwhelming majority of respondents didn t want the name altered.
The decision was announced during a virtual board meeting Tuesday night.
Last year, many Texas school districts considered changing school names associated with the Confederacy and segregation. A statement from District Superintendent Dr. Randal O Brien said, I humbly ask Goose Creek CISD community to continue to put your trust in an administration that has worked very hard to ensure a fair and objective process free from outside influence and political pressure.
