LDS church completes 200 pantry food delivery in New York

In February, prior to the pandemic, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — through Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve — made a promise of food for 200 food pantries across the state of New York. The promise was one of the ways the church was to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the restoration of the gospel and the First Vision of Joseph Smith in Palmyra, New York. Little did Latter-day Saint Charities or the church know that by December their promised food would be feeding thousands suffering from a pandemic and economic recession. “We’ve been blessed by the Lord,” Christofferson said. “We’ve been blessed by the generosity of the members of the church and been able to, in this way, help in a great humanitarian cause in a crucial year and situation that none of us anticipated fully, and yet we were ready.”
