Expanding CRTC powers would be disastrous
The justification for regulating TV and radio broadcasters is that they are given scarce radio spectrum, so the government has the right to tell them what to do with it in the “public interest.” That’s wrong on several levels, but there is a logic to it. There is of course no such logic in the age of the Internet and actually it hasn’t made sense since the arrival of cable TV.
