His under graduate work was done at a school where my father was a dean and my brother joe attended that school at the same time. And randy has turned into one of our great, modern american historians. One of the things that makes him great is he really minds the resources of president ial libraries. He really mines the resources of president ial libraries. He has come to the carter library, gone through and found very interesting documents that other people had not seen before. And he has done that at other president ial libraries. Combined with that, he has also mined the resources of the archives on various evangelical organizations that have become involved in politics. Good evening, im here tonight to announce my intention to seek the republican nomination for president of the United States. Im sure that each of us has seen our country from a number of viewpoints depending on where weve lived and what weve done. For me, its been as a boy growing up in several small towns in illinois, as a young man in iowa trying to get a start in the years of the Great Depression and later in california for most of my adult life. Ive seen america from the Stadium Press Box as a sportscaster, as an actor, officer of my labor union, soldier, officer holder, and as both democrat and republican. Ive lived in an america where those who often had too little to eat outnumbered those who had enough. There have been four wars in my lifetime and ive seen our country face financial ruin in the depression. Ive also seen the great strength of this nation as it pulled itself from that ruin to become the dominant force in the world. To me, our country is a living, breathing presen
