With wildfires raging across New Mexico, local and county officials are trying to get ahead of the curve before any bottle rockets and other such fireworks spark additional flames. State statute doesn't allow a flat-out statewide ban on fireworks, but local and county jurisdictions have some latitude to ban certain types of fireworks.
A cat and three dogs, including a small poodle mix, suffered smoke inhalation during a structure fire at 2365 Agua Fria Drive Wednesday afternoon, but no one else was hurt.
A high wind warning will be in effect for all of Sandoval County from 9 a.m. Friday until midnight. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected with scattered areas reaching 80 mph throughout most of New Mexico.
