In India, biotechnology has played an important role in helping stakeholders in academia, industry, and government develop new pandemic-related technology, from test kits to respiratory devices. But these biotechnology advancements can go further to strengthen India’s public health capacity.
one is to address the terrify issue. tariff issue. government policy is what put abbott in control of 40% of the market for baby formulas, monopolistic arrangements they had with states that allowed them to be the sole provider of formula for low income recipients of baby formula. that was a government policy put in place and that would could have been addressed. here we are. what could we do? ramp up production abroad and import. you don t have to import from china and places like that or india. you could import from canada which why aren t we doing that? tariffs in place? granted they were put in place by the previous administration but biden could lift those tariffs and that would address the problem. and he is unwilling or at least right now to do it. that would be the most direct way to get at the issue.
ramp up production, is that possible quickly other than in the permian basin in texas, which they seem to be able to do so quickly. what about elsewhere in the united states? is it really just a bare quote very difficult to do that on a dime? i think that is difficult to do that on a dime. the geology which makes it very productive a very productive field. and also with the u.s. even the $30 a barrel it s been a lot of investing into. the traditional oilfields you see the priming of productions or even oklahoma, new mexico and texas are the only places you are seeing increase production. that is were expected to get about one point to, maybe billion barrels a day by the end of the year. they re probably going to be
people if we see another surge, we re going to need to go back and put some more public health restrictions in place. and let s prepare for future surges. if they never come, terrific. but the bottom line is, we need to have a much more aggressive preparation mentality. if cases are low, and things are good, act like it. so that when things get bad, you can make the changes you need. so how do you prepare for the possibility of a surge in cases? yeah. so, you know, because we re two years in, we know a lot about this virus. and every variant, they re all a little different, they re still the same underlying virus and we know how to manage it. you know the list. what we need to have lots and lots of tests, ramp up production, have it in stores so the next time we have a surge, we can get them out to people and flood the zone with tests. we need to develop and we have some great therapeutics, we don t have enough doses, we have to build up our stores of that as well. we should star
